Hi! ¡Hola! 你好!
This is me, Eme, and this is the (short) list of things I’m interested in; things that share some of my mind’s space every day, which means that these are the topics/approaches that I’ll mainly cover on this blog (at least for now!).
Writing: I like writing almost as much as reading, but it’s usually easier for me to find time to write than to read —does this mean I enjoy writing better? Well… maybe. I’m still not sure. I like writing on all its forms; some days I write short stories (mostly in Spanish), some others I write poetry, or just some verses —I’ve never known how to call it. I also write essays, interviews, editorials and articles (I’m a journalist after all!). All I know is that I just sit and write, and, sometimes, I don’t even get to sit; I just write stuff on my way to the metro, while I walk Matsu, or whenever an idea pops up from my restless mind.
Cooking: I’ve always loved cooking. When I was a kid I used to cook with my mom; from her I learnt all the necessary skills to survive when I went off to uni. I also used to invite friends over to play -which to me often meant to cook-; and, on weekends, I baked cakes with dad —yes, my dad knows how to bake, and we both had a very sweet tooth at that time. He still does, but I have drifted away from sweets. Since moving out of Chile I have taken cooking classes in a bunch of different countries. I currently spend most of my time developing healthy plant-based recipes with an Asian hint, which I then teach at my cooking workshops in Madrid.
Traveling: Is devotion stronger than love? If it is, that’s what I feel for traveling. Not that I care about numbers, but when I thought of writing this intro about me I counted all the countries I’ve traveled in so far -in many of them quite extensively- and the result it’s 23, and I’ve lived in 3 continents. It might not be that impressive, yet I can assure you that from my travels I’ve gathered enough stories to write a three-volume memoirs. I’m a big fan of slow and budget traveling; I enjoy meeting local people, eating street food, getting lost, taking long train rides, and doing unplanned road trips. I hope I’ll never stop exploring this planet!
Photography: I’ve been taking photos since high school and I can’t conceive any of the three above without images. Photography is essential to me, to my life; and that’s maybe because without pictures I could remember only a tiny percent of my experiences. My memory has always been very fragile no matter how many raisins I eat per day (mom used to make me eat raisins with that excuse! XD). I reckon I like photography as much as I like words, but sometimes I can’t only focus on images and it’s very hard to come up with any words, and sometimes is the other way around. That’s just how it is.
